Tata Consumer Shares Jump 7%: Profit Rises 16% as Growth Brands Surge 40%
2026-10-27
Tata Consumer Products shares jumped as much as 7% on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, after the Indian FMCG giant reported a 16% rise in quarterly profit — making it the standout gainer on the Nifty 50 while the broader market barely moved. The stock touched an intraday high of ₹999.50, up from a previous close of ₹936.50, as brokerages cheered double-digit volume growth in India and a 40% surge in the company's newer growth businesses.
What happened
Tata Consumer reported its second-quarter results for FY27, covering July to September 2026, after market hours on Monday. Consolidated net profit attributable to shareholders rose 16% year on year to ₹469.30 crore, almost exactly in line with the roughly ₹468 crore that analysts polled by ET Now had expected. Revenue from operations rose 14% to ₹5,661 crore, up from ₹4,966 crore a year earlier and ahead of the ₹5,583 crore consensus estimate.
Operating performance also improved. EBITDA rose by roughly 17-18% year on year, with the EBITDA margin expanding to about 13.8-14.0%. The company's India business was the engine: revenue there rose 17.4% to ₹3,666 crore, with underlying volume growth of 11% — a volume-led result when many rivals have struggled to lift volumes.
Why the stock is blowing up
The headline profit number only matched expectations, so the rally was about what sat underneath it. First, volumes: an 11% underlying volume rise in India signalled real demand, not just price hikes. Second, the growth portfolio: Tata Consumer's newer businesses grew revenue by 40% and now account for 38% of its India business. Tata Sampann, its packaged foods brand, grew revenue 57%. The ready-to-drink business grew revenue 47%, with volumes up 34%. The core salt business grew revenue 15%, with volumes up 9% and premium and value-added salt volumes up 17%.
Third, brokerages stayed positive. Goldman Sachs maintained its Buy rating, highlighting strong double-digit volume growth and high-teens EBITDA growth despite a challenging environment, while trimming its target price to ₹1,325 from ₹1,440. Jefferies also kept a Buy rating, and JM Financial, Elara Capital and Citi remained positive on the stock even as some lowered target prices. For a share down over 14% in 12 months, a clean volume-led quarter brought buyers back.
The parts that were weaker
The quarter was not flawless. Standalone net profit fell 14.9% to ₹242.81 crore, even though standalone revenue rose 17% to ₹4,207.50 crore. India tea and coffee revenue declined 1%, with volumes flat amid subdued demand, and the company noted pressure from higher input costs. Capital Foods and Organic India together grew revenue 15% to a combined ₹409 crore — ₹264 crore and ₹145 crore respectively — with domestic growth of 24% held back in exports by shipping disruptions. Tata Starbucks, reported separately in coverage of the quarter, grew revenue 15%.
That mix is why several brokerages cut target prices even while keeping positive ratings: the growth story is working, but tea demand and costs remain a drag, and management has pointed to further price increases, including in salt in October, to support growth in the second half of the year.
What management said
“We delivered our second consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth in FY27, backed by strong underlying volume growth in India business. This volume-led performance, together with disciplined execution, drove 18% EBITDA growth,” said Sunil D'Souza, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Consumer Products, in comments reported after the results.

What's next
The next test is the festive and winter half of the year: whether tea volumes recover, whether the October price increases hold without hurting demand, and whether the 40% growth pace in Sampann, ready-to-drink and the other newer brands can continue as they get larger. Tuesday's rally says investors are willing to give the volume story the benefit of the doubt — for now.
