Vertiv Stock Jumps 14%: Sales Surge 61% as AI Orders Double
2026-10-28
Vertiv stock jumped 14% in premarket trading on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after the data-center infrastructure company reported third-quarter sales up 61% to $4.313 billion and adjusted earnings well above forecasts. Vertiv, which makes power and liquid-cooling systems for data centers, also raised its full-year guidance after organic orders more than doubled, giving investors a fresh read on how fast the AI infrastructure buildout is accelerating.
What happened?
Vertiv reported third-quarter net sales of $4.313 billion, up 61% from $2.676 billion a year earlier and well ahead of the roughly $3.75 billion analysts polled by FactSet had expected. Adjusted earnings were $2.21 a share, compared with a consensus forecast of $1.82 a share. On a reported basis, diluted earnings per share rose 91% to $1.95, from $1.02 a year earlier, while net earnings climbed to $764.5 million from $398.5 million.
The beat was not narrow. Seeking Alpha calculated a $0.39-a-share earnings beat and a revenue beat of about $550 million. Zacks put the surprises at 21.43% for earnings and 14.61% for revenue.
Why is Vertiv stock blowing up?
The headline numbers were backed by demand, not just by one-off items. Organic sales grew 55%, with acquisitions contributing about another 6%. Operating profit rose 90% to $984 million, adjusted operating profit rose to $1.087 billion, and the adjusted operating margin widened 290 basis points to 25.2%. Adjusted free cash flow was $652 million, up 50% year over year, according to the company release.
Most importantly for the outlook, organic orders grew more than 100% year over year. That order surge is why the market reacted so strongly: it suggests data-center customers are not slowing orders for the power, cooling and infrastructure that AI computing requires. Growth was broad-based across regions, with sales in the Americas up 75%, Asia-Pacific up 50% and Europe, the Middle East and Africa up 23%.
Chief executive Giordano Albertazzi framed the quarter as part of a much larger cycle. "We are in the middle of the largest infrastructure buildout and it's accelerating," he said in the release. "The demands on data center infrastructure are evolving faster than ever, and Vertiv's role in that buildout keeps expanding."
What guidance did Vertiv raise?
Vertiv raised its full-year 2026 guidance across key metrics. It now expects adjusted diluted earnings of $7.10 to $7.20 a share, with a midpoint of $7.15 that Barron's noted is well above the $6.73 a share analysts had been forecasting. Full-year net sales are now expected in a range of $14.45 billion to $14.85 billion, with a midpoint of $14.65 billion — a $650 million increase to the midpoint from the previous outlook. The company also guided to adjusted free cash flow of $2.6 billion to $2.8 billion.
For the fourth quarter alone, guidance pointed to continued rapid growth, including net sales around $4.41 billion at the midpoint of the range cited in earnings coverage and adjusted earnings of about $2.22 to $2.28 a share. In other words, management is not describing the third quarter as a peak; it is guiding to another large quarter to close the year.
Why does this matter beyond Vertiv?
Vertiv tracks spending behind the better-known chip and cloud names: every new AI data center also needs power distribution, backup systems and cooling for far denser computing loads. When orders for that equipment more than double, customers are committing money to build capacity, not just talking about it.
The timing mattered too. The report landed with a Federal Reserve decision due at 2 p.m. Eastern and Alphabet and Microsoft results due after the close. Reuters noted Nasdaq futures were already rising, helped by SK Hynix's bumper results, and Vertiv added more evidence that AI demand remained strong heading into those hyperscaler reports.
What's next?
The next test is execution: converting surging orders into sales and cash while expanding capacity and protecting margins. The 25.2% margin and 50% jump in adjusted free cash flow suggest Vertiv managed that balance in the third quarter, though investors will watch the earnings call for any sign that supply or customer timing could slow conversion.
